It has all the ingredients, will it have the spark?
The Esports gaming library is a strong one. However, it’s a struggle for any new game to break into this category and make a name for itself. It takes a game that has impeccable multiplayer aspects, a brand new and unique gameplay format, replayability value and it also has to look the part!
Easy to see why many titles don’t even come close to meeting the criteria. Well, we have some good news, there is finally a contender that seems worthy. We introduce to you: Hood: Outlaws and Legends.
What exactly is Hood: Outlaws and Legends?
Hood is loosely based on the tales of Robin Hood. Not the Disney cartoon fox either, but rather the gritty human vigilante stories of the original folklore.
In the game the goal is deceptively simple, you and your team of diverse thieves will be placed in an area where you must invade a stronghold, steal the treasures within from the clutches of the government and then escape with the loot and your lives. However, there will be many hurdles and barriers on your path to economic ‘justice’.
One of which will be the many enemy NPCs you will encounter on your path who you will have to sneak around or defeat in battle. This includes a sheriff who acts as a boss of sorts, holding the key to the stronghold.
They make things pretty tricky but when you throw into the mix that your opponents are also racing to get to the treasure first as well it escalates quickly. The game will test your speed, combat skills, tactical acumen, and communication all at once. So essentially, everything you would expect from an esports title!
How Is Hood: Outlaws and Legends Gameplay?
To give you an idea of what to expect from Hood: Outlaws and Legends, this title takes inspiration from a number of other popular games. In terms of the combat and core gameplay, it plays rather like Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla, For Honor, and Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor.
The combat is mechanically tight, intense and gives the player the option to fight up close and personal, purely with throwables and traps, or from the range with your trusty bow. Meaning that no matter what your playstyle is, there will be an option there for you.
Is This A Free to Play Game?
Ironically no, Hood: Outlaws and Legends is a paid title. However, when you see the production value, the level of detail within each stage, and the sheer quality of the gameplay, that shouldn’t surprise you. This game was released on the 7th of May and is currently retailing for £26.99 on Steam. This title is also available on PlayStation 4/5 and Xbox Series X/S.
This may be a bit of a hurdle should it be aiming for the competitive Esports scene, where many of the most popular recent titles have been free. Though not all. Only time will tell, however, if Hood will be able to steal a slice of the esports pie.
So that’s our news about a new title rising up to contend with the established Esports library. What do you make of this one so far? Do you think Hood has the potential to be a blockbuster hit? Or do you think that this one will struggle in this competitive field? Let us know what you think in the comments section below and as always, thank you for reading.
