The End of the Most Successful Team in CS: GO History

Astralis star dev1ce moves on…

The Danish esports organization, Astralis is a well-known team in the competitive gaming world, especially in the esports scenes of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, FIFA, and League of Legends. However, its CS: GO team is the most famous out of the bunch for being statistically the most successful team the CS: GO esports scene has ever seen.

Astralis is the team that has won the highest number of Major tournaments, totaling up to 4 Major titles. Altogether the team has won over 8 million USD in combined winnings. While the team has had many roster changes over the years, one player that has been there through all of its success is Nicolai "dev1ce" Reedtz. Unfortunately, to the shock of fans around the world, Astralis have decided to part ways with this veteran, ending the legend of the most successful roster the CS: GO world has seen.

Who is the legendary CS: GO champion dev1ce?

Coming from Denmark, dev1ce is recognized as one of the best players of all time with a bag full of 4 CS: GO major trophies and many more titles. He started his career in CS: GO’s predecessor, CS: Source, and has been a professional esports athlete for more than 10 years now. However, he is mostly known for his consistent career in Global Offensive since 2014.

He entered the history books as one of the first players to win 4 Majors (and to win 3 of them consecutively!) and even went on to win MVP in 2 of them. He joined Astralis back in 2016 to further his career and has been a vital member of the team ever since. Recently, however, he has decided to part ways with Astralis due to the effects of the pandemic, saying that he wishes to work with a team close to him.

Ninjas in Pyjamas snap up dev1ce for a cool million!

Astralis having understood dev1ce’s personal request and reasoning, decided to end his contract, and dev1ce was immediately signed by another known name in the CS: GO esports scene: Ninjas in Pyjamas. It is reported that NiP spent around 1 million USD to acquire this veteran making it one of the most expensive transfers in CS: GO history!

The new contract is for 3 years and the player furthermore explained that NiP’s attention to players’ mental wellbeing was also one of the main reasons why he agreed to the offer. Dev1ce plays the ‘AWPer’ role in his new team alongside his other teammates REZ, Plopski, hampus, and ztr.

What are your thoughts about this transfer? Will Astralis’ team survive the transfer? Was it worth what NiP paid for the player?
